Sony Announces the New 4K HDR PS4 Pro

The PlayStation Theater in New York City was the place to be on Wednesday, 7 September as Andrew House the CEO & President of Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that the PlayStation 4 Neo everyone was waiting for is now the PlayStation 4 Pro. While it is not a surprise another console was revealed, the PS4 Slim however Andrew stated that the PS4 Pro will join the PS4 Slim on the Shelves and that the PS4 Slim will replace the current version of the PS4 and will be the stock standard console from 15th September for $299 while the PS4 Pro will release on 13th November for $399.Both the Slim and Pro can play media in native 4K, but only the Pro can play games in 4K. One thing that stands out with thepro is that it will not come with a built-in 4K Blu-ray player.

Lead System Architect for the PS4, Mark Cerny stated that the new PS4 Pro will work with every PS4 game from the games that are out already to the games that are made in the future, however Mark said that developers will be have to enable “Pro Mode” which is necessary for the particle physics and high-res textures that the games will need in order for the game to run on the PS4 Pro. A number of developers have already said they are ready to to support the PS4 Pro on launch including Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1.
