Halo 5 is free to play from 29 June – 5 July 2016

New expansion arrives for Halo 5

Xbox and Microsoft tend to reward loyal gamer’s, and in this case they want to reward all Xbox Live Gold members with the complete Halo 5 game.Xbox Live Gold members are able to download and play for free from June 29 to July 5 as part of Xbox Live’s “Free Play Days” program. Alongside the release of the expansion Warzone Firefight on Wednesday, Xbox and Microsoft also have stated that the game will be 50% off during this free play week.

What to expect in the new expansion

The Warzone Firefight expansion provides three new maps in all the game modes. New maps include the Attack on Sanctum map, more maps like Covenant homeworld of Sanghelios, or another added expansion map is Prospect for Warzone Assault. For Spartans who love arena mode there is a new map called Molten, where the environment is hot and dangerous.

343 Industries revealed that there is a new way to play the campaign mode of Halo 5 with a mode revealed as Score Attack. In Halo 5 campaign scoring returns and it allows the players to compete against their friends for points and medals in both the online co-op and solo campaigns. The most important thing about this mode of play is that you will show your friends and fellow Spartans that points mean everything!

Another feature that they have added is the mini scoreboard in the bottom right of the screen has been updated. Previously the scoreboards only had your personal score, but now it has been updated to show your team’s progress towards current objectives on the top half of the screen. The scoreboard will react differently depending on your objective, such as if you had to take out some grunts there will be a red bar red bar and as you take each one out it will move from  right to left. If you are defending your armory a blue bar will slowly move from left to right as more of the enemies take your base.

Downloading the game and expansion

If you are going to attempt the free download on Wednesday, I suggest you have enough bandwidth and a fast internet connection because Halo 5 now draws around 80GB of hard drive space, this includes all the updates released and with this new expansion release we expect you to reach well over 100GBs as Xbox has said, this is the largest Halo 5 expansion yet.
