Overwatch brings in the big bucks for Blizzard
The leading provider of data research in gaming and tech, SuperData has stated that Overwatch was leading in the May digital revenue rankings with $269 million (~R4 Billion 🙁 ) in sales on the PC,PS4 & XboxOne. During the month of May the digital games market went up by 11% compared to May 2015, earning $6.0 Billion (R90.3Billion 🙁 ) in May. The game was also the fifth most streamed game across all streaming platforms.
The multi-player first-person shooter is becoming such a hit to online gamers and viewers that it is currently the fifth most streamed game across all streaming platforms. SuperData also reveled the revenue of Overwatch’s direct competitor Battleborn and has revealed that it performed much worse with the estimated earnings of $18Million ( R271Million).
One of the reasons for the high digital sale figure is that it features in-game loot boxes, which enhances the players character and game mechanics by gaining experience points, the player raises his level and each new level gives you a free loot box that may contain new looks for your chosen character and sometimes even more.
